Garchomp, Green Feral Overlord

Garchomp hastily made his way out of the upper atmosphere, retreating to the clouds and lower. He knew of the Great Dragon's wrath, and surely he only didn't kill Garchomp because he approved of the draconic battle that had taken place just before. Garchomp, as he descended, took stock of his wounds. He was weaker, slightly slower, and exhausted now that the adrenaline had mostly worn down. He would need to rest slightly and avoid further combat for a bit. He was hoping that the Salamence had been the strongest that the city could afford, and truth be told, Garchomp was impressed with just how powerful it had actually been. He would have to be less rash in coming battles if anything else similar to that appeared to threaten him.

Garchomp enjoyed the sandstorm much more than the cold darkness of the upper atmosphere where no weather could penetrate. It was cozier and warmer for his tastes. He looked around for an appropriate perch and found one in the middle of a large courtyard that looked demolished by some previous battle. He rested down and sat upon the remains of a fountain that no longer ran. Maybe.. Maybe if he got the chance, he could rejuvenate himself a bit. He had to stay alert, though, as this city was... Hostile towards him, to say the least. Heh.

Garchomp rested for a moment.
Garchomp restored 5% of its health.

Crux did not have to see to know a God fell.
That the two gods fought fierce was clear as the outpost of Haven was battered not only by the swirling winds of the sandstorm and the feeble rain, but the flaming embers of stone falling from the heavens. They impacted at random, as if the course that was once set was broken. Buildings that were already listing crumbled. The sounds of glass shattering, metal bending and twisting, concrete crumbling, it all merged together into a roar of catastrophic destruction.
Crux didn't hear a single sound of the crumbling town.
So intent on the words of the snake that hissed in his ear.

Though he could not see, Blind Kaa watched as the gods fought far far away from the line of sight.
The world came to him in a different light and even haloed by the black abyss, Kaa could see them fight and bleed in the air. He could smell their determination, their rage. He could taste the blood of the victor, and the defeated, as it slipped back earthward, the shock and awe at the impossible. He could hear their hearts beat...even as the world fell apart in cascading backwash....and as a God fell, another gave a mighty roar, tossing it's head back in triumph...triumph, at what cost...?

Kaa had shifted his scales, Crux tapping out the adjustments with his ring as the serpent told him higher or lower. Blind Kaa tracked the Garchomp back and forth, and so had the massive form of the sandstone snake. As the beast came to a rest upon a shattered fountain in the courtyard before the broken building a silence descended, the single moment to strike.
"..now.."
Crux tore himself from the snakes embrace, throwing out his hand to the massive form of Sutekh and roaring the command.

"ENHIMU SETNAH!"

And the breath of the Creator was unleashed in a blinding display of primal power.

He sat there, noting an uncanny silence spreading across the area.. Something was not ri- A blinding light came beaming toward him as if from nowhere, and without a moment's hesitation he reacted on instinct and dove backward, but not quick enough.

SUTEKH THE DESTROYER USED HYPER BEAM!
Garchomp lost 20% of its health.

The beam rippled across his visage, right where he had been a moment before, evaporating a segment of his tail and taking with it the tip of the fin from his left arm. As the beam passed his form by, it melted holes in at least two structures further down from his position before puttering out. He cursed at his carelessness, as this would make it much more difficult for him to fly, but he had little energy left to spend at this juncture anyway. If this assault persisted, there would be little room for him to breath, let alone escape. Whatever had sent that blast had been enormously powerful, much like the Salamence. These humans apparently were far better prepared for this than he had anticipated.

Garchomp scurried off away from the source of the blast and down a street as he made a war cry to rally the Skarmory to his side. They had been harassing the inhabitants, but now he needed them to cover his momentary retreat. He had to find the Hippowdon, as they would be his best chance to muster a recovery from this attack.

"GARRR - CHOMPGAR!! CHOOOOOOOMPP!!"

The Skarmory had all heard the call. They knew that it meant that Garchomp needed them, and they flocked to him like flies to a fallen meal. Skarmory swarmed the area around Garchomp as he directed them with his claws and body motions to cover his retreat and attack whatever had come from that direction. There were at least fifty of them in the initial ranks, and more on their way from across the city. Garchomp, meanwhile, made his escape, seeking out the sources of the sandstorm - He knew exactly where they would be.

Weavile noted a pained cry coming from the Garchomp in the distance. Still being pinned down by the incessant Skarmory in the area, he had little he could do. Just then, however, all of the Skarmory seemed to be flying away, right towards the pained Garchomp. Weavile, knowing that this was an opportunity he had to seize, crawled out from underneath the truck under which he was hiding and trailed down back alleys and through shattered windows in buildings towards the sound he had just heard. All he needed was one clean shot...

The beam was not a finishing blow, meaning the beast would turn tail and run.
Hiding and healing was not an option the Dragon would have...if it did, all this had been for nothing. Crux stood, facing the storm of metal that rapidly approached. Bladed death on sharpened wings. He had never fought the metal birds before, but that mattered little. Crux turned to face the old snake and held up a poke'ball.
"Return old One...now is not a time for talk."
The Arbok bowed it's head and in a flash of light, was gone. Crux turned back to face the creatures, then knelt on the ground. Sutekh stirred. Crux kissed the ring on his hand and tapped twice on the ground. Again it seemed to echo out, the noise loud where it should have not been heard at all, it was the death knell Crux pronounced on his foes. The earth rose as forces vast and great pushed it aside and the bandit stood.

"Amuskeht. Lir. Devourer. Deathbringer. Arise."
Two enormous shapes emerged, pushing their girth against the building, concrete and metal snapping and crumbling. Sutekh remained over the form of its rider and the diamond eyes watched the metal birds with interest. It's body was holding the weight of debris casually, the building starting to give as its last attack wracked the landscape. Crux faced his foes as they came for him.

"Steady."
On they came.
"Steady."
The sandstone snake twitched.
"Steady."
They were so close.
"Daska." the bandit whispered.

The building was thrown apart as the form of Sutekh the Destroyer, Amuskeht the Devourer, and Lir the Deathbringer smashed apart the frail building, sending scores of stone against the Skarmory circling and approaching the hiding place of the Asher-ban. Crux was protected mostly by Sutekh, debris falling around him as he watched the world fly apart.

"CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMPPPPP!!!!"

Even during the Sand Dragon's wake, Tobias stood still in utter shock. A Garchomp wasn't even considered as a threat during the attack, there were zero reports of dragon Pokemon activity in the Desert. Even the Pokemon who were so focused on battling the sandstorm couldn't even help but shake in absolute fear. They trembled at the sight at the large blur that was heading straight right at them.

As though God could not give Tobias another moment, loud thunderclap shook the foundations of the Department Store and before anyone knew what had occurred, the building began to topple over and collapse onto itself. The Garchomp ripped through the building, causing it to collapse. The roof that was considered to be a safe ground for the Rain Dancers but it had become a death trap. Trainers and Pokemon had already fallen along with the rubble.

-"Everyone! Does anyone have Flying-types?! Anythin-- AAAAAHH!!!!"-

Tobias and whoever was left hanged on to dear life as more segments of the building fell to the ground. Knowing that the trainers most likely didn't have a flying Pokemon otherwise they would have already abandoned ship in desperation although the Pokemon would have lost wind against the sandstorm and would've fallen to its doom along with the trainer. A loud roar shook the building even more and the roof began to topple.

"Everyone, stay close together! Do not separate from each other!"
In one swift movement, Tobias whipped out a Pokeball with grooves of various colors spiraling into the center and not a moment too soon as he and other trainers lost their footing did a bright red light swallow everyone.

Already eluding majority of the ferals rampaging through the streets of Haven, Infernape kept himself hidden by crossing the city through building to building. Any feral he had encountered were quickly dispatched and he went on his way towards the shopping district. He was only several minutes away from the department store when he saw a large blur come down from the sky and rip through the building. Fragments of gravel and glass rained down from the building, it was only in a minute that the store would buckle and collapse. With no time to spare, Infernape quickened his pace and head straight for the department store.

Infernape was only a half click away from the group's position, a loud wail broke through the streets, shattering everything in the vicinity. He looked up to see the Pokemon that brought all the destruction to Haven, a Garchomp. It would have been easy for a Pokemon of that size to bring down the department store like that, Infernape moved with caution until another dragon answered that wail with his own. A Salamence had challenged the Garchomp over dominance, this was no place for Infernape to interfere against a battle between two dragons. From the position he was in, he had no choice but to stay between alleys as the two titans battle against each other with fire and earth.

The world turned red around the trainers and Pokemon, no one ever believed that they were going to live from a fall from ten stories. They believed that the red was actually their own blood. But the red light subsided, the sky came to view and witnessed the department store collapse right in front of them. Trainers and Pokemon that were inside were jumping out of the building trying to avoid getting crushed by the rubble and fell to their doom. In the midst of it all, no one had realized that they were in mid-air until Tobias ordered the trainers to recall their Pokemon for it was hard for the Beldums to maintain their anti-gravity field for a large number of people.

Only seven stories off the ground, the group was floating in mid-air because four Beldums were called to form a perimeter to hold everything in the area from falling. Unfortunately there was no time for the Beldums to combine so only the trainers and Pokemon on the roof were saved. Tobias recalled his Roserade and ordered everyone to stay close to the center as much as possible, he wanted to reach the ground before a flying feral attacks them. The Beldums began to hum in unison and drew closer to the pack of trainers.

"Everyone, do not move or panic. I want to touch ground before that Garchomp or any other feral find us in the air like this. The Beldums will take care of everything, just stick close together."

Tobias reassured everyone before the Beldums initiated the next move. As they drew closer together, the Beldums communicated to each other even more with audible hums and beeps. A white glow surrounded everyone and the space around them began to distort their vision outside the anti-gravitational field. Tobias made sure everyone stayed still in this process, otherwise the entire thing would just backlash and possibly kill everyone in the field. Or not. He wasn't really sure since this was the first he has done this with so many people. With final assurance, he motioned to one of the Beldums.

"Go."

The Beldums hummed in response and they began to glow with a hue of blue. For a single moment, everything stopped around them. They could not breathe, time had stopped, they felt every fiber of their being being slowly pulled like a rubber band. No pain, nothing. Just like a rubber band, they stretched then snapped into place. The Beldums echoed one last hum and everything went white. A bright white light flashed, it was like a flare shot out in the middle of the night. In a span of several seconds, the white light disappeared along with everyone else. And in the rubble below, a white light materialized the trainers and the Beldums all in one piece.

"GAAARRRR!!!"

Tobias looked up at the sky to see flocks of Skarmory gathering in the city, the Garchomp cried out to alert his minions to gather. He called his Beldums out once more and ordered the trainers to retreat to a safer location in the warehouses further away from the feral attacks. Tobias wanted to enter the battle, he didn't want another incident like what just had happened to the department store. The Beldums glow once more with a hue of blue and teleports Tobias on a rooftop. He has a good view of the area and the ferals. With one motion with his hand, the Beldums answered by facing each other and drew each together with synchronized humming.

The sandstorm rages.
Time of Day: Late Dusk

At the department store, white flashes of light created by Psychic-type Pokemon teleported entire groups of military personnel off of the upper echelons of the collapsing structure. They teleported just out of range of the falling structure, just far enough to avoid being smashed by the department store, now toppling sideways into the near night. Fragments of the building broke off as it finally gave way under its own weight and tipped over into the rest of the city toward the river. The rubble crashed down hard, killing a dozen assorted ferals that were too slow to avoid it. Even worse, though, was that all of the civilians that had been hidden inside of the basement level of the structure just had five stories of rubble crush in on their roof, smashing all of them into oblivion. Virtually the entire civilian population of Haven had just been wiped out.

As the dust settled around them, Tobias and his group stood practically alone amidst ruins and still-standing buildings.

Garchomp made his escape down the streets of the city. Behind him, the sound of a crashing structure renewed his vigor slightly. That was his doing, he thought. Several Skarmory, instead of fighting back there against his attacker, were patrolling with him to escort him to the Hippowdon. They had already scouted ahead and knew the quickest route, and noted that it shouldn't take more than a few minutes to reach them. Garchomp's wounds pained him, but despite the damage done, as a dragon of the strongest caliber, he healed quickly.

THE HYDRIX USED STEALTH ROCK!
Pointed stones float in the air around your foe's team!

Jagged rocks hung in the sky about the Skarmory as they flew through them. Not only did this slow down the beasts, but it damaged them when the stones bounced into them mercilessly. As though that wasn't enough --

THE HYDRIX USED STONE EDGE!
A critical hit!
Skarmory lost 116% of its health.
Skarmory lost 141% of its health.
Skarmory lost 102% of its health.

Skarmory lost 121% of its health.
Skarmory lost 130% of its health.

Entire troves of Skarmory were splintered and fragmented under the immense weight of the fractured structures. Entire segments of the city were being torn out of the ground and flung at Pokemon that couldn't hope to dodge them for their lives. It was a slaughter. Still, despite this, the Skarmory pressed on, taking on different angles and attacking at different sides of the beasts to try to do some damage to something. While the Hydrix possessed sheer power, the Skarmory had raw numbers and their attacks would strike super-effectively against the rocky beast. A few managed to get close enough to one of the heads of the beast to stage an attack -

SKARMORY USED STEEL WING!

SKARMORY USED METAL CLAW!

The sandstorm rages.
Time of Day: Late Dusk

Weavile pressed on, through ruins and buildings and under cover so as to avoid drawing attention. He heard the crashing of a structure in the background, and knew that with it many lives had been lost. As Weavile pressed on, he encountered a lone Marowak that seemed to be doing nothing meaningful with its life. He was foolishly clutching his club and looking around the wrong corner for anything that might be approaching. Unfortunately for him, something was already behind him -

WEAVILE USED ICE PUNCH!
It's super effective!
Marowak lost 168% of its health.

The Marowak froze in place - entirely encased in ice in its dying breathe. Weavile looked around the corner, trying to sense where the Garchomp had gone. He heard cries of Skarmory in the distance from another direction, perhaps it was there? No, he doubted it, it would be in the opposite direction! Dangit! He had no idea which way to go.. He needed Lucario now more than ever. Stupid jackal, why did it have to go and do something like kill itself!.. Weavile frowned at the thought, recalling that his long-time friend would not ever smile at him again. The thought of this loss, brought on by the likes of that damnable Garchomp, enraged and motivated him to press on. His claws snicked together mercilessly and he ran off at top speed in the direction his gut told him to go.

The horrible sound of steel and rock sliding together set the bandits teeth on edge.
The Hydrix roared in fury, Lir taking the brunt of the attack, grooves of sliced rock marking his face and 'neck' with deep gouges.

Lir lost 4% of his health!
Lir lost 4% of his health!

Yet the Hydrix did not pull back, it weathered the metal onslaught, lashing out with it's powerful jaws, crushing those it caught and grinding them with enough pressure to turn metal into powder. Those lucky enough to escape unscathed watched as their murder was depleted by several more bodies, and another several limping to the ground with broken segmented bodies and dull wings where the stone proved to be stronger than it appeared.

Crux did not want to push his luck.
"Daga! Daga! Daga!"
His voice carried to the ears that needed to hear it. With another mighty roar the three heads pulled closer together before retreating into the ground from whence they emerged. The bandit took one last look around before taking a few steps back and vanishing into the hole. As he had suspected, to ease the travel underground, Sutekh had been using sewer systems. Crux splashed down into trickling water and let his eyes adjust to the gloom. He would find the beast...and cut its head from the shoulders it sat on.

"Sutekh. Los Geah."
Crux held out a hand and as the massive form of the Hydrix slunk by, gripped the golden ring and held tight.

The hunt was on.

The pecking stopped suddenly as a muffled roar shook the building. Shear breathed a sigh of relief as the Skarmory left, moving back to where Razor slept to continue addressing his wounds. Upon his arrival, however, the bloody mattresses were empty, a long trail of blood leading to the eastern exit of the building. The Lapras arrived just in time to watch his friend tear through the frozen barricade with a single swing before Razor lept out into the streets.

Razor struck, as much as landed, the street below, wincing as the apparatus on his back pressed into still open wounds. As he sniffed the night air, he considered the possibility that these ferals were not all beast, that out of some honor that Garchomp had let him live, but as he caught the scent of his dirty, draconic blood on the air, he knew that he had given his foe too much credit. Not kind, not honorable, just stupid.

He tore up the street as he bounded down it, flight still being too painful an option, instead using his battered wings to shield himself from the storm. He was being reckless, he knew, as being bound to the earth put him at the mercies of the many ground and rock type ferals that stood between him and his prey. All he had now was Blood and Honor, and both laughed in the face of reason, demanding he finish what he began.
And though you come out of each gruelling bout,
All broken and beaten and scarred,
Just have one more try—it’s dead easy to die,
It’s the keeping-on-living that’s hard.

"... And make sure some useful Trainers are with the group this time." She shouted after one of the more helpful civilians, fuming. "These idiots can't even seem to fend for themselves, let alone unarmed civilians." Glaring hard at the small knot of would-be trainers that had managed to survive the building's collapse, Joanna turned and kept moving, making sure the bulk of the noncombatants gathering had a roof over their heads. She didn't want the flock of Skarmory or, worse, the dragon itself, looking down and seeing nothing but a rabble of easy prey.

As she marched she gave orders to anyone willing and able. Many were orders to gather and distribute food and water. Others had to do with parentless children. But most concerned injuries. Mostly from the building collapse. Bumps, bruises, sprained joints, severe head trauma. Shock. Confusion. All from falling debris, from either the building itself or the Pokemon battling nearby. A few lacerations had been sustained from relentless ferals that had refused to back down even as the very building they were assaulting collapsed on them. Improvised splints had to be applied. Any unconscious individuals had to be carefully moved and settled. At least one tourniquet was needed. Not much blood had been spilled, but everyone involved had a fine coat of dust layered over them, including Joanna herself.

She was still trying to brush the dust off as a small girl came up to her, shy, scared, familiar. She poked at Joanna, to make sure she had her attention. They smiled at each other. The girl handed her a piece of paper. It had a drawing on it, filled in with crayons, bright and colourful. Childish. A rectangle, all in gray. It was tilting, a ragged gash at the halfway mark. The department store, tumbling. There were people coming out of it. A giant turtle, all green and brown, almost as big as the building itself, was to the right of it. It was holding the store up. Giant green whips extended from the shell and attached themselves to the building. A rough approximation of Aker, his size vastly exaggerated by the girl's imagination. Next to the turtle was the girl herself, tiny, a smile on her face, holding hands with a woman that was no doubt Joanna. Tall and commanding, Poke Ball in hand.

The girl asked whether she liked it, a serious expression on her face. Joanna smiled and gave her approval, nodding gravely. The girl giggled and ran off, seeking compliments from other Trainers. "Stay with your parents, Megan. We're moving soon." Joanna called after her, her smile fading as she recalled the chaos of the past half hour...

She had long since stopped trying to get through to Crux. The desert bandit hadn't responded to her at all. He'd been lost in concentration, enveloped in his own mind. Then the Arbok was loosed, and Crux was enveloped twice over. So this is what he meant, she thought to herself. OK, Crux. Guess we're splitting up after all.

She didn't bother trying to let him know. Figured Crux would be OK. She knew he was capable enough, and his Onix was doubtless still below ground somewhere nearby. So she kept on running, further into the city, toward the dragons still clashing overhead. Looked like they were somewhere over the department store, by her guess...

She didn't try to hide as she made her way through the city. Not because she was disregarding the ferals. There just didn't seem to be any. She figured most of them were centered on the sandstorm, protecting whatever was still perpetuating it. She constantly tried her radio. "Status!" Or "Report!" Or "Anyone still with me?" There were no responses. Not really. She wasn't expecting much to begin with. The ferals would be the source of just about everyone's attention. On top of that, there was still the unnatural weather to compete with. Mostly she was answered by static. A few times she heard people talking, but she couldn't make out the words. The rhythm and the inflection made it sound like a cry for help. Low, urgent, afraid, a plaintive consonant at the beginning. Maybe please. She tried again. "Location?" No reply. "Where are you?"

Nothing but empty static.

Joanna charged on, frustrated, moving toward the Pokemon Center now. Saw something move ahead, in one of the buildings. Heard a small whimper. Joanna stopped, searching. "Hello? Someone here?" No reply. After a while someone poked their head out from an open doorway, tiny hands pale as they gripped the wall. Eyed Joanna for a long second and ducked back inside. "I need your help. My name is Joanna." The head popped out again, peeking. Stared at Joanna again. Then a girl, small and young and pretty, smooth face streaked with dirt, padded out of hiding. She was maybe five years old. Her eyes were green, and they were scrunched up in concentration. She had a serious, solemn expression on her face, like she was thinking hard.

"Mom says I should only talk to people I know. I remember you. Your name." She said, slow but sure. Joanna nodded gravely. "Wise advice. Is your mom with you?" The girl shook her head, pain on her face. "No. I can't find her. She told me to wait, so I did, only she didn't come back, then nobody else did neither..." Joanna walked toward the girl, squatted next to her, arms across her legs. "I'm sure she tried to come back. But there's a lot of trouble right now, so maybe she couldn't. Do you know where she might have gone?" The girl thought hard for a moment, biting her lip. Then she nodded. "The partment store. Someone said run to the partment store."

"OK. We'll go to the partment store. Maybe your mom thought you'd run there, too. What's your name?"

"Megan."

They walked slowly at first, hand in hand. After a few minutes Megan agreed to being carried, and their pace improved greatly. Long, easy strides, maybe thirty extra pounds on her back. The weight didn't bother her. Joanna was used to heavier loads, over longer distances. She knew they were nearing the department store as soon as stray ferals started showing up. They were avoided easily. Just random stragglers. Tired, or stupid, or injured.

She started cutting through buildings, quick and quiet, the girl on her back not making any noise. Eventually she saw the store itself, dead ahead, already listing dangerously under its own weight, concrete pebbles and chunks petering out endlessly. Bright, flaring stones fell from the sky, crashing into the streets, testament to the fury of the dragons still locked in their deadly sky-duel.

They reached an apartment building far enough from the department store to be safe. The door was unlocked. They went in and walked up to the second floor. Joanna put the child on her feet, gently, in some long since abandoned living room. "Need you to stay here, Megan. Think your mom might be somewhere in the partment store. Gotta get her out." The girl nodded, her face a jumble of emotions. Fear, and sorrow, and confusion, and hope.

"Good friend of mine's going to keep you safe, OK? Stick with her and you'll be fine." Joanna let Stranger out of her Poke Ball, the Luxray stretching for a moment as it appeared. Then it was all eyes; alert, aware, wired and ready for action.

"Strictly guard duty. Keep her safe, girl. No risks." Stranger gave a slight nod of her head, and nothing more. Joanna turned to Megan again as she felt a tiny hand tugging at her pants.

"Mom says I'm not sposed to be with strangers. I dunno your friend's name."

Joanna smiled reassuringly. "She doesn't really have a name, Megan. Doesn't like them. Call her Stranger, if you'd like, but don't think of her as one." The girl nodded her understanding, smiling for the first time. "It's very important that you stay with Stranger, Megan. She'll keep you safe. And try to stay quiet, like I know you can. I'll be back." That solemn look came over the girl's face again, and she sat down, staring at Stranger inquisitively. Before she left Joanna checked the second floor thoroughly, then the third, then the fourth. No sign of anyone. No ferals, no survivors. She went down to the first floor and checked that, too. Nothing doing. Satisfied, she left, making her way toward the toppling department store.

A flock of Skarmory was above, circling the skies or shuttling off. Following commands, she thought. They looked organized. Directed. Some patrolling, others scouting ahead. Or guarding something's rear flank. She couldn't be sure. No sign of the Garchomp. There were other ferals at street level. Not many, and widely varying. They looked agitated. Like they wanted to attack, but couldn't. They knew it was suicide. The building could collapse at any minute. One of them was trying to direct the rest. It was a Marowak. It was huge, for its kind. Well over six feet, all tough hide and raw muscle, a blood-red skull grafted onto its head. Its bone-club was nearly as tall, well-worn but still plenty intimidating. There was blood dripping from either end of it. The giant Marowak was waving it at the department store. Not straight at it. It was slanted down, at an angle, like it was pointing below ground. The basement levels.

They didn't see Joanna. She walked into another building and looked around, listened hard, on alert. After a while she took out a Poke Ball and let Zeke out. The giant, bipedal grizzly growled deep in his throat as he was released. He was a fascinating mesomorph, muscle layered over more muscle, hard bone, tough sinew and thick, rough brown fur covering him from head to toe, save for his nose and mouth and a perfect tan-coloured circle on his stomach. Not noticing any immediate threat, he started rolling his shoulders, loosening unused muscles. "Hey, Big Z." The hulking bear smiled his lopsided, shaggy smile, like she knew he would. "Got a bone to pick outside. Make an example of him for me, will you?" Zeke grunted in reply and made his way toward the door. He had to bend over double to be able to go through the doorway.

Once outside, Joanna nodded in the direction of the department building. "No time to waste, Big Z. Go for the Marowak. Make a show of it. Hopefully the rest scatter. They look like they're ready to run already." Or fight, she thought, but left it at that. Zeke grunted again and moved toward the building. Marched a few steps, until he knew he was clearly visible. Planted his clawed back feet firmly on the ground and paused a beat. Then he roared out a challenge, loud and angry and threatening.

"URRRRRR-SAAAAAAR!"

He waited until he was sure all eyes were on him. Marched on, directly toward the Marowak, sure and steady. He ignored the other ferals. No cautious glances, no intimidating glares, focused completely on the Marowak. Like the others weren't there. They let him pass. Didn't try to stop him. A few trailed a safe distance behind the Ursaring. The Marowak was isolated, rooted in place. A ragged circle formed around the two combatants. The blood-red eyes in the blood-red skull stared out at Zeke. Not afraid. Insane. Hungry for a fight. Joanna smiled to herself a short distance outside the circle, one hand on her knife, the other holding her last Poke Ball.

Zeke didn't bother waiting any longer. He charged, roaring, both arms winding back. The Marowak swung its bone-club, circled it over its skull, building momentum, waiting for Zeke to get too close. The Ursaring charged, heedless.

The giant Marowak didn't hammer its weapon down, like Zeke had been expecting. It swung the club in a wicked arc, like a baseball bat, immeasurably fast. But it waited too long. Zeke caught the club easily in one giant foreleg and the Marowak's wrist in another. He clawed down on the feral's wrist, ripping through the tough hide effortlessly, ribbons of flesh dangling from its blood-soaked arm. The Marowak screeched. Zeke took the bone-club and tossed it away casually. Grabbed the Marowak by its outer skull with both claws and stared at the ghastly skull-mask for a second. It was a crude piece, covered in dried blood, impossibly dense. The Marowak stared out from under it, eyes darting everywhere, hectic and afraid. Zeke tightened his grip on the skull-mask and forced the Marowak into the ground, face first, driving the feral down with all his weight, four hundred pounds of coiled fury bearing down in an explosion of raw power. Both of the Marowak's skulls bust open with a tremendous crack. Zeke lifted it off the ground, like a display. Its bared mouth hung open, bubbling blood, the skull-mask having shattered completely off the feral Pokemon's jaw. Its face was an unrecognizable wreck of bone shards and smashed flesh and dripping blood, dead, blank eyes still open, terrifying in their crimson emptiness.

Zeke forced the Marowak down again, with the same amount of force. Didn't pick him back up. Stood up perfectly straight and roared out another challenge, eyes aflame with anger, muscles tense, breathing heavily as he stared down the rest of his potential victims.

The remaining ferals scattered.

The next ten minutes went by in a flash. The building, falling. People screaming from within. Aker, unleashed once more, doing whatever he could to prevent complete disaster. Joanna herself running inside the building crazily, shouting, directing, aiding, at times fighting. Total chaos as she led the way out. Some made it. Some didn't. No way to tell how many survived and how many were buried as they scurried away from the collapsing building in a frenzy.

Joanna gave out a small sigh. Found her radio and tried it again. "Anyone out there? This is Joanna Lane, requesting assistance. I repeat..." She let off after a while and waited, watchful for any incoming ferals.

The sandstorm rages.
Time of Day: Early Night
BOSS BATTLE
Image
Garchomp, Green Feral Overlord

ImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImageImage
Garchomp pressed on. His muscles were loosening and his wounds were slowly becoming less painful. He flexed his arms and noted that they were responding perfectly once more. He was almost ready to engage in combat if the need arose - it most certainly would. The Skarmory that led in front of him rounded a corner and tried to express in screeches to Garchomp exactly how far away they were -

WEAVILE USED ICE BEAM!
Skarmory lost 61% of its health.
Skarmory was frozen solid!
Skarmory lost 73% of its health.
Skarmory was frozen solid!

The iced-over metal birds crashed to the ground, solidified in their frozen tombs. He wasn't sure if these were the ones he was looking for, but he wasn't about to give them free reign over the city. He waited patiently to see if anything else rounded the corner before advancing. Something did -

Garchomp was deathly afraid of Ice-type attacks, but at this point, he couldn't rely on his Skarmory anymore. He stepped out from around the corner and eyed his adversary carefully. The look on this creature's face as it finally encountered exactly what it had been looking for was one of immense shock followed by absolute resolve. Garchomp had never encountered such a Pokemon before, but he could tell that whatever it was, it was more agile than he. Those Ice-type attacks would spell a quick end to Garchomp if he wasn't careful, but heh. He wasn't going to give this thing the chance. What was left of the Skarmory that were with him edged around the corner and stood next to him.

ImageImageImageImage
Weavile had found the beast, and from the wounds across its body, could tell that it was weakened. Still, he knew very little about how it fought and these Skarmory would be a real pain now that they were prepared for him. He couldn't afford to be overwhelmed here, as this stage was not quite adequate for a final confrontation. Perhaps if he just distracted them a bit...

WEAVILE USED ICE SHARD!
Weavile's attack missed!

Garchomp dashed quickly to his right, easily dodging the move with the sandstorm constantly blurring his form. The Skarmory darted forth to lash out at the creature, meanwhile Garchomp stayed back to survey how his new opponent fought.

SKARMORY USED STEEL WING!
Skarmory's attack missed!
..
SKARMORY USED METAL CLAW!
Skarmory's attack missed!

WEAVILE USED ICY WIND!
Skarmory lost 27% of its health.
Skarmory lost 31% of its health.
Skarmory's speed was lowered!
Skarmory's speed was lowered!

WEAVILE USED NIGHT SLASH!
A critical hit!
It's not very effective...
Skarmory lost 69% of its health.

Weavile darted between the two metallic birds with ease. He performed acrobatic rolls and easily dodged both of their attacks. Once he washed them over with a chilling wave of ice, they were too slow to even react to his attacks. He struck one with his night slash and it went crashing into the nearby building to his right, dead. The other one, trying hard to keep up. Weavile, not giving it a moment's respite, went for the killing blow -

WEAVILE USED ICE PUNCH!
Skarmory lost 74% of its health.

The last Skarmory crashed into the floor, twitched slightly, and then fell limp. Weavile turned to face the drago--

GARCHOMP USED DRAGON RUSH!
Weavile lost 68% of its health.

Garchomp gave the beast no opening. He knew that he'd have to perform hit and run to best it. He rushed the creature by flying through the air at low altitude to strike it and slammed through it with ease. Garchomp soared low to the ground and spun about 20 yards away before landing on his feet and turning back toward it. Unsurprised, the creature had suffered a critical injury from the attack. He may have been fast, but was incredibly frail. This would be a simple matter to end swiftly.

Weavile cursed the Skarmory for distracting him from Garchomp's attack. He should have been more careful! Regardless, Weavile had the strength to push on, but couldn't risk another such attack. He knew that Garchomp was a close-in fighter, which gave Weavile an immediate advantage.

WEAVILE USED ICE BEAM!
Weavile's attack missed!

Garchomp dodged yet again. He would have to somehow get in close...

GARCHOMP USED DOUBLE TEAM!
Garchomp's evasion rose.

Multiple images of Garchomp rushed toward Weavile now. Weavile cursed under his breath, knowing that a misprediction would cost him his life here. He thought and reacted quickly, knowing how exactly to determine the real one in time.

WEAVILE USED ICE BEAM!

The Ice Beam swept across the floor in front of him and up the buildings on either side, creating a literal wall of ice between him and the Garchomp. He then performed a quick series of backflips to put more distance between him and the impending Garchomp.

It didn't even aim at him? What was it doing?

Garchomp and all of its images collided with the ice wall, having been moving too quickly to possible slow down their course. Four of the Garchomps vanished immediately when they hit the wall, meanwhile only one actually crashed through it.

Garchomp didn't understa--

WEAVILE USED ICE SHARD!
It's super effective!
Garchomp lost 15% of its health.

Garchomp swung low, unable to carry himself any longer in flight. He crashed into the ground and slid along toward the creature that had just outsmarted him in a most clever fashion. Icy shards dug deep into his torso, his neck, his face, and his limbs. He was seriously wounded, bleeding out of nearly every area of his body. He was very weak, and one more attack would surely end him. He cursed himself for not understanding the creature's ploy, as it would now cost him his life...
Image
He came down the street after noting a disturbance. They were so close to the camp, surely Garchomp wouldn't keep him waiting for much longer... As he rounded a corner, he noticed Garchomp lying there at the mercy of some creature! Bronzong, the tactical engineer for this attack on the city, would not let him fall here and intervened immediately. He raised his levitated form and aimed the bottom of his bell-shape at the creature -

BRONZONG USED GYRO BALL!
It's super effective!
Weavile lost 31% of its health.

Weavile was flung from his position of power over the Garchomp and through the wall of a structure at the end of the street, nearly 20 yards away from where he was previously standing. The hole he had made in the wall was gaping and he had destroyed some shelves filled of books. He couldn't make out where he had ended up, though, a bookstore? An office? He started to lose focus in his vision and was unable to move. He had no idea what had hit him, but... but...... He passed out underneath a fallen book shelf before he could conceive another thought.

Bronzong moved closer to Garchomp, noting just how weak he was after that encounter. Clearly, Garchomp wouldn't be able to move himself. Furthermore, he could sense that many of the humans' Pokemon were inbound to deal with Garchomp. Bronzong had to do something to get him to the camp, and quick. He pondered for a moment, then had a brilliant idea.

BRONZONG USED MAGNET RISE!

Garchomp levitated into the air and floated there, suspended by magnetism. Bronzong floated down the street from whence he came, followed closely by the levitated Garchomp. Marowak came down the street to meet them and escort them back to the base. As they all moved around another series of several street corners, they came upon a large opening. In this opening, two Hippowdon, nearly a hundred Skarmory, and the entire rest of the coordinated Marowak and Sandslash groups stood ready. Their master was wounded severely, but had returned to them alive. Each of them looked hopeful that Bronzong would be able to engineer a quick recovery for it once in the center of the camp. Bronzong knew he could easily restore him a substantial part of his strength once they were safe, so he had little doubt that this battle would soon be theirs once more.

It was slow going.
Crux had to be careful of his position. Too much pressure and the man-made caves would collapse. Too slow and the beast would escape to lick its wounds and the bandits entire journey would have been a wasted gesture. All the lives lost a wasted sacrifice. The Asher-Ban warrior had no eyes to the events above his head, but knew that there was indeed a battle raging. Dust shifted whenever they would stop at an intersection, causing the bandit to peer up at the concrete ceiling as if he could see through the physical barrier. He had no radio, not one with him in any event, and without at least a place to spy from, the bandit was limited on his options.

Well, there was always the direct approach.
Crux called a halt at a great intersection, dismounted and gazed above.

"Sutekh!"
The desert beast rumbled, it's sandstone skin grinding against the sides of the tunnels.
"Aup Heii!"
Slowly the beast wound it's body around the bandit in a great circle before testing it's weight against the concrete ceiling above. Finding that it was relatively weak enough to smash through, the Hydrix grumbled in unison. Lir and Amuskeht bracing against the stone. Crux ducked back a few steps behind an archway and braced himself against the stonework.
"Shak Fahn!"

The Hydrix slowly shifted it's massive coils and braced for another display of sheer strength.

The storm's ferocity grew as he followed the scent, and a troubling realization came to the Salamence. Garchomp was going to ground. Razor knew he had to find him before that happened, before he had time to lick his wounds, ready his forces, and finish off the city.

Several blocks from the edge of the city, the air changed entirely. No longer simply dry sand, but intermixed were flakes of ice, bits of metal, and a powerful odor of spilled blood. He saw what moments earlier had been an impressive ice wall blocking the street, and knew he had just missed the Garchomp.

His senses followed the battle, the broken bodies of the Skarmories told of their violent, screaming deaths. The shattered architecture, broken pavement spoke of the strength of his prey. The blood that covered them, of his weakness. And the still settling rubble from a hole in the wall spoke of the fate of one so bold as to challenge the Garchomp.

Razor hurred into the building, and listening he could hear troubled and shallow breathing. Hefting the bookshelves with relative ease, he found the Weavile, broken, battered, and on the brink of death. With great care he scooped him up, nestling him in his wings while looking for a place to hole up for the night.

His search bore fruit, finding the heavy, wrought iron door of a vault, setting the Weavile down on a small wooden table in the center thereof. A few moments of purposeful ransacking later produced several small blankets, a black and red bandanna, and a couple of old water bottles. No first-aid kit, but simple enough of tools to fit his simple medical understanding.

He washed the rubble from the wounds, using torn pieces of the first blanket as gauze to at least dissuade the bleeding. Razor almost patting himself on the back for how capable he was.

Almost, that is, because when he stepped back, he noted the crimson pool forming around Weavile on the table, beginning to drip on the stone floor beneath. Turning him over, the grievous wound was revealed, a piece of stone deeply embedded in his shoulder, probably from when he was thrown through the wall.

Razor coughed up a single, brightly burning ember into his left paw, while his right carefully grabbed the shard and pulled it out. As expected the wound poured out, and so Razor winced for the unconscious creature as he cauterized the wound, a sick smell of burnt flesh assaulting his senses.

Tossing the ember to the corner of the room, he fashioned a sling out of the bandanna and lifted Weavile from the table, now far too bloodied a place for him to sleep. His tail pulled upon the door, leaving only the tiniest crack as he curled his body around the Weavile for protection and warmth, and, if he were to be completely honest, because part of him needed to care for something.

And so Razor sat, without any true rest, for as long as the night would allow, one eye fixed upon the door, the other upon Weavile. His tail twitched as he sat, a tell that he was not unawares of the war outside, of the lives in jeopardy, of the ferals that needed killing, but for the dragon with a hole in his heart, it would have all been for naught if this single life was lost.

RAZOR USED ROOST!
RAZOR IS FULLY HEALED!!
And though you come out of each gruelling bout,
All broken and beaten and scarred,
Just have one more try—it’s dead easy to die,
It’s the keeping-on-living that’s hard.

"SHAK FAHN!"

Again the Hydrix smashed through solid man-made stone, scattering debris all around.
A mighty roar ripped through three sets of vocal chords and could be heard by the entirety of those in Haven. The Hydrix thrashed about, scattering rubble and fracturing the man-made landscape as though it were nothing more than plywood. A few moments passed but there was no answer to the call. No murder of metal birds, no roar of a wounded dragon. Nothing but distant destruction and the taste of a bitter defeat yet to come.
Crux could not stand to let the beast slip away into the dark. With another sharp order he had Sutekh raise him to ground level then push him even higher. The Hydrix rose up and up, coming to rest against a building and depositing the desert bandit upon the trembling rooftop. Even with higher ground, Crux could not find the foe he was looking for. He had had enough. Slipping a hand into the confines of his garb, Crux produced a sand marred pokeball and unleashed its inner demon. Stretching forth its vast wings, the Aerodactyl cried out and settled down. Crux mounted the saddled beast and took up the well-worn reins in his hands.

"Zamphir! Aup Heii!"
The creature let out a shrill cry and flutter-hushed to the edge of the building.
The Asher-Ban looked back at the impressive Hydrix and spat the command boiling beneath his garb.

"Level it."

The eyes of the three flashed as one and again the creature roared into the early night.
There would be no safe place in Haven now.

It was only moments after Infernape had left the plaza to search for his master when the department store fell. When he witnessed its collapse from a distance, he sensed something had gone horribly wrong. The building swayed for a minute then fell like a pile of blocks before he saw the flashes of white light that told him that his master had used his beldums to teleport to safety. But that did not guarantee that the other trainers and civilians were safe from the collapse and he could not discern whether or not his master was near or not. With his body shaking with worry and concern, Infernape braced himself as he raced through the city towards the department store wreckage.

Image
Between debris and chaos, Tobis was not even sure of himself about what had happened. The department store collapsed within minutes after the Garchomp tore through the building. Roserade had taken critical damage from the rubble during their fall. He had to use his beldums to teleport the group of trainers with him on the roof to safety but by ignoring everything else, the rubble and debris from the store had killed off most, if not everyone that stayed inside the basement level. He already ordered the trainers to scout for any trainers or civilians that survived from the collapse. But he knew it would still take a miracle to recover from something like this, he underestimated the ferals and especially their leader. To think that a single pokemon was able to wrought so much damage in a single blow, Tobias felt his anger well up inside of him but he had to calm down. There were many more ferals within the city and their leader, the Garchomp, was nowhere to be seen.

Tobias observed the current situation from a nearby roof top. Majority of the cityscape had been reduced to shambles as a result from the fall of the department store and the ever-growing sandstorm. He could see large figures converging to the central plaza and there were flocks of Skarmory flying overhead, presumably scouting for any survivors. There was no way of figuring out any other trainer activity in the battle, this worried him as Ingram had left on his own to battle the ferals. More importantly, it is turning into nightfall. The ferals can use the darkness to their advantage and pick us off one by one in our current position.

With a quick message through the radio, Tobias ordered the trainers to wrap up on searching for survivors and to relocate everyone to the nearby warehouses. They would provide proper coverage from the sandstorm and places some distance away from the feral packs. He was concerned about protecting the shelter because even if they were protected from the outer elements, there would not be enough trainers to fend off any major attack. There was no chance figuring out the enemy's current status without proper scouting and without Ingram, there was no way to leave the warehouses empty handed.

While mulling over details, the radio blew up in activity stating several civilians and trainers were recovered from the basement level and were taken in for immediate care. The fact that there were survivors gave Tobias some ease. The possibility of surviving this fight just became greater but still. There is only a short time to recover before the ferals resume their attack.

Tobias checked his own pokemon before regrouping with the trainers at the warehouse. His Roserade was still recovering, he gave it a super potion but the grass pokemon being exhausted from the rain dance needed more time to rest before actually moving. The beldums are in better condition than Roserade but after being forced to teleport without combining caused some confusion but it was not something to worry about. He took out a pokeball and let out all four beldums. They hummed in partial unison as they were released.
ImageImageImageImage
"Take your metang forms. One and two. Three and four. We need to start using your psychic abilities to fortify the warehouse. Let's start by teleporting over there," commanded Tobias. The four robots took several seconds to register their master's command then finally hummed in unison as they sporadically spun together around Tobias. Their humming resonated off of each other until each Beldum began to glow with a blue hue. Their bodies bent and contracted together, drawing towards each other into two pairs, then in a soft blue glow their forms aligned into two Metangs.
ImageImage
"There we go. Now, use Teleport!," Tobias pointed towards the direction of the warehouse. The Metangs responded with a firmer hum than before and began to synchronize together with Tobias in the middle. They glowed red and in a white flash, they teleported right at the entrance of the warehouse. There were trainers guiding the injured and civilians through the wide gates. They had found an emergency bomb shelter with supplies that had enough medicine and food to last for several days. The trainer count was low but Tobias had to make due. "Metangs! Use light screen and reflect on the perimeter! We need to be able to defend this warehouse if any ferals attack and the proper shields would provide decent coverage if they come in greater numbers."

The Metangs responded with the same firm hum and with their arms raised, they began form a dome shield around the warehouse. Their work would take some time but as they raised more layers of reflect and light screen, the dome gradually became more visible with a greenish hue. By the time of the shield's completion, the sun had set and the dome's soft glow and shape can be seen from a distance.

Image
Infernape would have been able to reach the department store within minutes if he wasn't so occupied with avoiding ferals left and right. The moment he began running towards the ruins, there were packs of ferals moved through the main streets without any regard to the environment. The monkey was agile enough to move through the rubble and broken structures but the sheer number of low level and high level ferals moving together put Infernape in a difficult position. He was hiding in an alley where a toppled building provided visual cover from any scouting ferals.

From rolling Golems and stampeding Rhydons, Infernape tried to see what exactly these ferals were running from. Or going to. He has been unaware of the current situation ever since he saw the Garchomp rip through the department store. He had been unable to see where the Garchomp went after that incident nor has he seen any other trainer or friendly pokemon. He did note that the ferals were definitely more agitated than usual, as if they were preparing for something.

What exactly is going on? Infernape waited for the coast to be clear and as the last feral pack went out of sight, he moved out from his hiding place and followed the foot tracks to where the ferals were gathering..
Let's do what comes naturally

I'll be waiting in Haven.
