Machinima - Any pointers?

Post by VZBushkiller20 » Tue Jun 23, 2009 12:18 pm

So I was hired by my mother's company this summer to learn how to make and edit movies in the virtual world Second Life, but I really have no idea how to do that. I've downloaded Fraps, but apparently I need another program as well for editing and the likes. If any of you know tutorials or have suggestions for (preferably free) programs, please feel free to suggest them. I am really quite new to this.

Adobe Premiere is superb. Try the trial, you'll love it. It's not free though.

I assumed he wanted it legally.

Of course, if Adobe isn't going to bother that nifty Hosts thing...

I'd prefer to do it legally yeah :P

And the reason free is because even though it is for my mom's office, I'm still getting stuck buying it >_>

Ah. You could try the trial for the 30 days it's worth, show the program and end results to the person paying you (If you're getting paid, if not, whoever wants you to work), and hey, you might convince someone enough to get yourself out of buying it. Or maybe you can find a giving tree or win one.

If you have a Mac I think iMovie comes with the OS. It's not that bad, but has some annoying quirks. Final Cut isn't bad either or so I'm told, but I don't think it's free.

Final Cut Pro costs an Arm, a Leg, and your First-born Son, although its features are really only worth the leg.

You could always use Windows Movie Maker -- it comes with Windows XP and Vista. I think you could even download it from Microsoft's website. I don't have many suggestions in video editing.

Also, for video capturing, I recommend you take a look at a program called "Growler Guncam", or "Guncam". Something along those lines. A quick Google search should serve well in finding Guncam.
