Gelatin (also gelatine) is a translucent brittle solid, colorless or slightly yellow, nearly tasteless and odorless, that is created by prolonged boiling of animal connective tissue.
It is a protein product derived through partial hydrolysis of the collagen extracted from skin, bones, cartilage, ligaments, etc. The natural molecular bonds between individual collagen strands are broken down into a form that rearranges more easily. Gelatin melts when heated, and solidifies when cooled again. Together with water it forms a semi-solid colloidal gel.
On a commercial scale, gelatin is made from by-products of the meat and leather industry, mainly
pork skins, pork and cattle bones, or split cattle hides.
Next time you go to eat something with Gelatin remember where that gummy chew came from.

Wow.
I never knew that. I can't believe it...
That I ate so little of it. Now, every time I go shopping, I will buy a pack of Starbursts and eat them for twice the joy because of the knowledge that there were animal by-products in it.
LOVE MEAT.

Be funny all you want, I have nothing against meat or anything but that just sounds horrible.

i've known for a long time and i still dont care. tastes good, doesnt kill me, makes more use out of the animal, its great!
Even if the morrow is barren of promises, nothing shall forstall my return

I'm not trying to be funny. I like meat, and as Bregan has pointed out, it makes more use out of dead animals. And certainly, it makes stuff more enjoyable to eat.

I agree, more use for the animal. I'm not vegetarian, so no worries.
Read my prose please .

As long as it tastes good I honestly don't give a shit.

That statement is actually dumb. VERY dumb.Hell_Tempest wrote:As long as it tastes good I honestly don't give a shit.
I wouldn't make a big halo about gelatin being made from what it's made. You thought it's made from a gel-tree? ;P Now search some, and see what sausages are usually made from. That's more concerning. Or cold meats. You know how much of it you can make from 1 kg of ham? Up to 2,5 kg. That means, there's 1,5 kg of water and chemicals in it. Real ham's not wet. A strange brown liquid (benzoic acid) doesn't flow out of real ham, when you leave it outside of the fridge for a few days.
Thanks God for ecological and traditional production.

Now to offer every vegetarian I meet a Starburst.

Yeah, really, I could careless what it's made of, as long as it's not dog, cat, or human, and doesn't hurt me, I'll eat it.

Iv'e always thought, it may sound awful, the stuff in it, but you know what? It tastes awesome and so i'll just pretend that it's made up of the candy of angels or whatever.
I no longer use this profile to post anymore, so any PMs or replies to topics I've posted in directed at me, I may not read.
