Your Task...

Post by Hydrolisk » Thu Jun 19, 2008 10:04 pm

...Is to help me find out why my account is missing the section of the taskbar that displays what programs/windows I have running.
I'm using a Windows XP operating system, and the problem has occurred today, I believe. Now, No matter what I try to do (or what I have TRIED to do) it will not reappear.

NOTE: I still have the "Start" button, Quick Launch, and my relatively useless Language Bar, it's just that none of my windows display.

It's a window manager bug with an unknown cause, but there are many things that may fix it.
The easiest is to go to

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/taskbarplus!.htm

then click on "missing minimized programs".

If this doesn't work, screen shot your task manager, then screenshot your desktop with CMD and notepad open, with task manager minimized. This will narrow down the problem possibilities considerably.

Have you lately added programs to the system tray?

Bullsh*t. It's always something with this f*cking computer...

Now whenever I right-click, the menu that shows up is invisible until I highlight it with my mouse. And then still, the borders are invisible.

I swear, I need to reformat this thing...

-I'm going to try to do some reboots and what-not to see if that'll help.

Whew, never mind the above.

BTW:

If Firefox stores its Bookmarks/Links locally (or whatever), where can I find the folder that holds the Bookmarks?

You don't, unless you really enjoy registry-diving, and in that case, I would offer you a razor blade and a linkin park CD.

I'm guessing you are reformatting and want to keep your links. You need a third party program to extract them into a file. After you format, use the same program to apply this file to your new install of firefox.

edit: found the program

Moreso, I'm simply trying to get a "links" toolbar in my taskbar.

Never mind the following.

(Ah, thanks for your help so far Ves. If you know of any free (I'm no-budget) MIDI to MP3 or what-not converters, then please: inform me.) <- Shit, screw that. I'd rather find out how to record whatever the Hell my speakers are playing. That would be a million times easier.

Um, omg no don't do that, that's too much work.

Click Bookmarks, click on "Manage Bookmarks". (Should open a new window, with all your bookmarks) Hit "File", then go down to "Export". Choose a place and name to export to, and BAM! you're done. When you reformat, or go to a different computer or whatever, do the EXACT same thing, but instead of hitting "Export", hit "Import", and choose your file.

Soooo much easier......

Err, perhaps I'm not explaining it correctly.

Can Firefox export its bookmarks into a shortcut/file format like how Internet Explorer does?

It exports into a .html file, which if you wanted could open up and it shows all your links, it looks pretty weird though.

But yeah it's just a single file that you can then import into any other browser (probably, I haven't tried).
