Game seems OK but just jumping around and climbing stuff doesn't suit my fancy.

It's not a first-person shooter, it's a first-person adventure game.
You can get weapons by disarming an enemy, but keeping them will slow you down.

Yeah I know.
But I couldn't play a game where the only goal of running and jumping around is to bring a message. Why couldn't they just use trained pigeons?

Everyone was closely monitored so much that if you want to send a message, you'd need a runner.
By the way, the combat was a second option, the hard thing is to get to an area. (The path is colored red, by the way.)
