Helpful Commands

This is where all random discussion about DoE goes. If it doesn't feel like it fits anywhere else but is still related to the map, this is the place to post it.

Helpful Commands

Post by Final_Pantheon » Thu Jun 26, 2008 7:09 am

Trying to convert a world of DotA into a world of DoE is a tough job, made even tougher by the fact that *every* new person who trys to learn the map doesn't understand the different conditions.

Wouldn't it be helpful to have a -condtions command (or something similar) that displays text to new players explaining what conditions are and what the different effects of conditions are?

Just a suggestion, not sure if it's been said before.

I think that, excluding cripple vs. maim which are synonymous, the conditions are pretty self-evident.

Yes, anyone who doesn't understand what the conditions do by their name alone are pretty QQ.

I think cripple is self-evident as well. I mean, we do call handicapped people that use wheel-chairs crippled in today's society, so that it reduces movement speed should be fairly intuitive. Maybe that's just for us Americans, though.

Maim is like a wound, cripple is like getting hamstringed; just try to think of it that way.

What I said was that the difference between cripple and maim is not self-evident because the words mean the same thing.

lol, they both mean partial or complete loss of function in a limb by injury.

I find myself too subjectively inclined to agree, particularly because I'm used to in most stand-alone games maim having something to do with arm dysfunction. You're probably right by strict denotations, though.

Technically, you're right. But, I was speaking DoE-wise.

And I tend to think of maim and cripple being top and bottom, respectively, anyway.

I dunno if Ruin is really self-explanatory either.

Maybe some kind of difficulty meter over each of the characters head at the begining? I.E. Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced
I know that ive seen many a noob pick Sozen only to quit the game 5 minutes later :\
As for someone who has been playing AoTZ and DoE for a while the learning curve wasn't to high for me, but for someone who is used to Watered down DoTA where all the skills are pretty much the same DoE can come as quite a shocker.

The problem with that idea, blitz, is that different characters come more naturally to different people. So unless there's something really bizarre about a character, there's not a huge way to gage how well someone will initially do with that character.

Difficulty meters don't help for shit.

I agree totally with Phox. Heroes are not more "difficult" than others, they just require a different mindset when playing. Putting a "difficulty" meter above the heroes head would lead some people to believe (since they have never played the game before) that one hero is actually different in terms of ease, whereas they are not.

Well Im just saying that Dis for instance is far more complex then Arro Kree.
Maybe thats just my opinion :\
It would probably lead to everyone being intimidated by the 'ADVANCED' Difficulty
