I could see that maybe working with creeps and trebuchets inflicting conditions, but it's still difficult for me to see why you'd pass up Taint's significant 200 damage and cripple at level 1. =/

Because in the all middle mode, Epidemic is actually ridiculously valuable at level 1 in full games. At least that's what the beta tests showed me.

Dusk, with your new DDS, can you tell when a unit misses an attack or crits? I'm not sure if thats fully related to a DDS but its worth an ask.

Well, yes and no. The method I've got integrated into DoE would make it rather difficult to detect misses, though I suppose it could be done with some recently made advances. Crits could be done, but it'd probably not be worth the trouble since I'd have to design some custom event structure.

I guess the overhead answer is yes, it can be done, but no, I'd prefer to not do it. :p

I think it's already been done; you need to remember that I don't have sound, so I'm pretty much just picking soundsets from heroes that seem like they might fit the character.

o.O How do you figure out which sound effects to use for spells if you don't get to hear any of them?

I believe the majority the sound effects for the spells come from the special effects themselves.

Everybody worry not, I've told dusk personally what soundset changes to make;

Kassar will now have the naga myrmidon voice. It sounds much more badass than the current royal guard.
Arro kree will now have the usual crazy bloodmage voice. It sounds much more fiery, burn shit down than kael being all kind and stuff.
Kaa has been given the ice troll voice. He's like, ''yeahhh, cool'' etc.
Sozen has been given the illidan soundset. It's cooler than demon hunter : )
Atrius has been given the priestess of the moon voice.

I actually like the Royal Guard better. The Myrmidon is a bit more bassy but the RG just has a pretty cool voice. There's quirks there for me.

Based on text descriptions. I can only guess what "Flame Strike" sounds like, for instance.

I haven't actually done this yet because someone else whom I can't remember liked the DH voice more. Consensus here would be appreciated too. I seem to recall the DH being cooler, but I can't say for sure.
