Name Pronounciations?

This is where all random discussion about DoE goes. If it doesn't feel like it fits anywhere else but is still related to the map, this is the place to post it.

Name Pronounciations?

Post by Psiclone » Fri Feb 06, 2009 12:25 am

ver-TEH-JOHN

The high tech porta-potty.

I believe it is Verr (roll the r) - tah - jah - oon (As in Spoon)
Cruor Vult

One thing that's always baffled me is:

Is it "Jen-O-Bee" or ""Jean-O-Bee"?

Jen - Oh - Bee

Of course you're right, you know me in person. Lucky bastage knows all of the proper pronunciations. :p

Ann - Ick, Sk - Urge

Ah - Ray - Ah

Jan - Eese. The umlaut over the 'i' is critical for pronunciation.

Zuh - Tair - Ah, Kah - Orr

The rest I think you may be pronouncing correctly, but might just not be very good at sounding out for the way you typed them. Glyphe is pronounced the same as glyph, and Stille the same as still, for instance.

Lol, I remember this sort of business when some of us got on vent and we were arguing over the pronunciation.
Vert-wah-nah was how I pronounced back then. Now I just say Vert for the sake of convenience.
Janise was a good one. Jan-iss, but apparently it was EESE.
Genobee was a killer though. "JEE-NO-BEE" "NO WTF NUB, IT'S JEN-OH-BEE" etcetc
Best vent argument EVER.

Lol, although I always thought Genobee was actually one of the easier ones. The hardest I thought was Fahren;

Possibility 1: FAH-ren KAA
Possibility 2: FARE-en KAA (like Fahrenheit)

Intresting you say Glyphe specifically, though. I deliberately spelled out Glyphe because I always thought it would raise confusion, as below:

Glyph: GLIFF
Glyphe: GLIYFE

I always thought that the "e" added the sort of "i/y" sound to the Y.

I've been pronouncing Vertejaune, vur-teh-joan. Fun fact: in French, this literally means green-yellow.
