Hito, I reset my dungeon depth on a recall scroll. Guess I should advance a bit and repost his stats, though.

Anyway, Law got killed by a tag team of a pack of mages and a pack of cave orcs. Can I just try to make a same-stat character named Law and get him to the same point, for cinematic sake? That wouldn't fly in the gameplay challange, but this seems more story-based than gameplay based.

By the way, I think that's why 3.1.0 is harder than 3.0.9. Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems like monster packs are much more aggressive in this one, to the point where any time I can see two packs with Detect Monster I'm just going to leave that floor.

You sure you don't have the hardcore-difficulty AI options enabled by default?

Both our dumps have these on-

Adult: Monsters chase current location : yes (adult_ai_sound)
Adult: Monsters chase recent locations : yes (adult_ai_smell)
Adult: Monsters act smarter in groups : yes (adult_ai_packs)

My guess is that they've made those more powerful, because that seems to accurately sum up my problem. I get killed by packs of things. I'll bet you the monsters just got better noses/ears. But now that I know of it I'll just play a bit more conservative and I'll be fine.

I can't imagine things being more aggressive than they already are for my Dwarf. I'm sure I'd be dead by now if they were, since I cut it way too close as it is -- even for being a fully plated Dwarf with excellent stealth.

I wish I'd entered now instead of before when I was a nub. Hero level 18, Dungeon level 11, Dunadan Paladin... I'm actually doing well now, I have 7 killed uniques and other more funny things, like 152 giant white louses because they reproduce several times quicker than I can kill them... Gah, I want to keep going with a new char now.

The black market people are extortionate.

Okay, I have some things to do tonight, but I'll crack open my Dwarf and pick out some challenges for you all between the dungeon levels of 8 and 12.

Dunadan level really slow but DAMN are they steady. It's wonderful. 12 STR is very nice when it comes to carrying stuff.

So Law may be behind the warrior pack but he probably shouldn't die for a while. I'm playing it so safe it's mindboggling. (Even so, I've had a couple close brushes before where I ran out of cure potions. But I have enough money to just recall back and fourth.)

I'm also running Steven the Half-Troll Warrior just to have a fast leveler, so I might bring him in here as well, unless you just want one character.
